Outcome evaluation of online substance abuse education courses

This is my tenth year of developing and offering online self-help courses for my patients who are court- ordered to complete substance abuse prevention classes and would like to evaluate outcomes, I.e. Reoffense or continued problems from substance abuse. Are there any professionals on this site that could assist.?

What type of support are you looking for? Someone to teach the courses? Facilitate? Develop? Any feedback you can offer would be great. I currently work in a substance abuse program, and I specialize in addiction and trauma.

Also this is in response to the post from tw telehealth

I am looking for questions to place in an online survey to assess post-treatment outcomes, i.e. legal problems, level of alcohol use, continued problems from alcohol use, etc. I just need the outcome variables so I can report back to pretrial diversion programs.

If you are working with a court, perhaps you have a contact there who would assist you in the data collection? I am sure they would be just as interested as you are in the impact of your program. Is your course the only intervention these individuals are receiving?

Have you thought about using measures from any of the drug court outcome studies? There is a whole list of studies available: http://www.ndcrc.org/ There is also the BAM: http://www.mentalhealth.va.gov/providers/sud/docs/BAM_Scoring_Clinical_G... which is designed to assess needs during treatment and does not include criminal justice measures but does cover substance use measures. You might be able to take some of the questions from it and phrase the criminal justice questions in a similar way to come up with something that would work for you.

Thanks for sharing the BAM.

Kim,
Thanks for sharing the BAM. I can see there are questions that can be used for pre and post measures for alcohol use and it would be simple to incorporate a recidivism measure.
